Importing Audience Members

How to manually import audience members to your campaigns, with the option to create registrations, generate fundraising pages and add tags.

👩‍💻 At a Glance

You can manually import audience members to your campaigns using a CSV file.

It's a great way to add supporters to journeys, market to past participants and re-engage campaign audiences.

You also have the option to apply custom actions during import. Examples include adding tags, creating registrations and generating fundraising pages.

Important: You must use Social Sync's CSV template or the file will be rejected when uploaded. The CSV template can be downloaded in the Audience Import section.

Getting your audience CSV file ready

Key things to do before uploading an audience CSV file to Social Sync:

  1. You must use Social Sync's CSV template or the file will be rejected when uploaded. The CSV template can be downloaded in the Audience Import section.

  2. Update the CSV template to include the correct audience details. Remove the dummy data in the template and replace it with your audience data.

  3. If using phone numbers that start with 0 in the Phone column, you will need to change the Phone column Data Format to "Text" in Excel/Numbers. If you don't update the Data Format to text, the 0 will automatically be dropped by Excel/Numbers resulting in an incorrect number. As long as the Data Format is "Text", phone numbers starting with + and 0 will be accepted e.g, +447XXX XXX XXX and 07XXX XXX XXX.

  4. Ensure the file is saved as a CSV file and the columns match the template. If the file format is not CSV or the column headings differ to the template, it will be rejected at upload.

  5. If you reopen the CSV file after updating the formatting, you will need to update the formatting again. Each time the CSV file is opened the formatting will revert back to the original, for example in the Phone column "Text" will change back to "Automatic" resulting in leading zeros being dropped – 07XXX XXX XXX in the Phone column will become 7XXX XXX XXX. It's essential that the Data Format is "Text" and any leading zeros haven't been removed before uploading the CSV to Social Sync.
