Merge fields let you automatically add dynamic information from Social Sync into your supporter communications and pages.
Use them to personalise content with information such as a supporterâs name, fundraising total, event details, fundraising page links or registration information.
Merge fields are available across different parts of Social Sync, including:
Email builder
SMS messages
WhatsApp messages
Microsites
Form success pages
Other supported content builders
When your content is shown or sent to a supporter, Social Sync automatically replaces the merge field with the relevant information from their record.
Merge fields linked to supporter-specific data may appear blank when using test send functionality, as test messages are not linked to a specific supporter. They will populate when sent as part of a live supporter journey.
Using Merge Fields
Merge fields and dynamic form fields can be accessed through the thunderbolt ⥠menu wherever supported.
To add a merge field:
Open your builder â Open the email, SMS, WhatsApp message, page or form content you want to personalise.
Select the thunderbolt ⥠â This opens the available dynamic content.
Choose a category â Browse the different types of information available.
Select a field â Choose the information you want to insert.
Continue building your content â The field will appear as a placeholder and will automatically populate with the relevant data when used.
For example, adding a First Name merge field allows the same message to display a different supporter name for every recipient.
Finding the Right Information
Available merge fields are grouped into categories to make them easier to find.
Depending on where you are using them, these can include:
Campaign Details - Information about the campaign, such as title, dates, activity type, fundraising target and campaign totals.
Event Details - Information relating to a specific event within a multi-event campaign.
Registration Flows and Forms - Links to registration flows or custom forms created for the campaign.
Supporter Info - Personal information from the supporter record, such as name, contact details, motivation and lifetime value.
Fundraiser Details and Actions - Information and personalised links relating to Social Sync, Facebook, JustGiving, GoFundMe or Enthuse fundraising pages.
Order Details - Information about supporter orders, including products, sizes, delivery details and order status.
Donation Details - Information relating to a donation, including amount, date, campaign and fundraiser information.
The fields available can vary depending on the builder and the records associated with the supporter.
Campaign Details
Campaign merge fields can include:
Title â The public campaign title from Campaign Settings.
Description â The campaign description.
Start Date â The campaign start date.
End Date â The campaign end date.
Activity Type â The activity selected for the campaign.
Activity Target â The activity target set for the campaign.
Activity Units â The unit used to measure campaign activity.
Microsite URL â A link to the campaign microsite.
Target â The campaign fundraising target.
Total Raised â The total amount raised for the campaign at the point the content is generated.
Total Activity Logged â The total activity recorded across the campaign.
The microsite must be published for its URL to work. Fields without corresponding campaign data may appear blank.
Registration Flows and Forms
You can dynamically insert links to registration experiences created within the campaign.
Registration Flows â Select one of the campaignâs Registration Flows to insert its link.
Custom Forms â Select one of the campaignâs Custom Forms to insert its link.
This is useful for sending supporters directly to a specific registration or follow-up action without manually copying URLs.
Supporter Information
Supporter merge fields use information stored against the supporter record.
Available information can include:
Title
First Name
Last Name
Date of Birth
Motivation
Lifetime Value
Email
Phone
Address
If information has not been captured for that supporter, the corresponding merge field may be blank.
Fundraising Information
Merge fields can pull information from fundraising records connected to the supporter.
Depending on the fundraising platform, this can include:
Page title
Fundraising target
Page creation or end date
Page URL
Total donations
Total raised
Share or donation links
Social Sync fundraising pages can also provide personalised action links, such as:
One-click login
Login and share
Fundraiser settings
Team settings
Create a team
Giving settings
Donate
Connect supported external fundraising platforms
Where supported, external platforms such as Facebook, JustGiving, GoFundMe and Enthuse have their own platform-specific fields and actions.
Activity Information
Where activity tracking is enabled, you can use merge fields such as:
Activity type
Activity target
Activity units
Number of activities logged
Total activity logged
These are useful for personalised milestone, motivation and progress communications.
Order Details
Where a supporter has an associated order, available information can include:
Order date
Order status
Item type
Item fit
Item colour
Item size
Shipping name
Shipping address
Donation Details
Donation merge fields can include:
Campaign title
Fundraiser name
Fundraising page title
Fundraising page URL
Donation date
Donation amount
Testing Merge Fields
When using Social Syncâs test send functionality, some merge fields may appear blank.
This is expected because a test message is not linked to a specific supporter, fundraiser, registration or transaction.
When the communication is sent as part of a live journey, Social Sync uses the relevant supporter and campaign records to populate the dynamic content.
Building More Personalised Experiences
Merge fields allow you to build one piece of content and automatically personalise it for every supporter.
Instead of manually creating different messages or looking up individual links, Social Sync can automatically insert the relevant supporter, campaign and fundraising information at the point the communication is delivered.
This makes it easier to create personalised, multichannel behavioural supporter journeys at scale.
