👩💻 At a Glance
Email touchpoints let you create fully branded, personalised emails directly within Journey Builder.
Start from scratch or use an existing template, then combine flexible content blocks, Merge Fields, dynamic images and personalised calls to action to create emails that adapt to each supporter.
The builder includes a live preview, global branding controls and reusable content blocks, while your organisation’s required footer and unsubscribe information are added automatically.
Your email sending domain must already be connected before you can send Journey Builder emails.
Adding an Email Touchpoint
Open the relevant Pathway in Journey Builder and add an Email touchpoint where you want the communication to be sent.
You can then choose to:
Create New Email – Build a new email from scratch.
Select Template – Choose from your existing Email Templates, with search, sorting and preview images to help you find the right starting point.
If you use a template, you can customise it for the current journey without changing the original.
Starting a New Email
When you create a new email, Social Sync automatically gives the touchpoint a title and adds your organisation’s branded footer.
The footer pulls through key information from your organisation settings, including your logo, address, charity information, compliance content and campaign unsubscribe link.
This means the essential brand and compliance elements are already in place before you start building.
Using the Email Builder
The Email Builder is split into three main areas:
Content – Add, edit and arrange the blocks that make up the email.
Branding – Control high-level styling across the email, including fonts, background colours, foreground colours and link colours.
Settings – Configure sender information, subject line, preview text and reply settings.
A live preview remains visible while you build, so you can see how the email will appear to supporters as you make changes.
Email Settings
Use Settings to control how the email appears in the supporter’s inbox and where replies are sent.
Set the To Name using Merge Fields such as First Name, Last Name or Full Name, then choose the From Name supporters will see. This can be your organisation, a team or an individual staff member, and can include emojis where appropriate.
The From Email Address defaults to your preferred sending address from Email Domain settings, while the Reply-To Email can be set separately. For example, an email could appear to come from a named fundraiser while replies are directed to a shared supporter care inbox.
You can also personalise the Subject Line using Merge Fields and emojis, and add Preview Text to give supporters more context before they open the email. The builder shows the subject line and preview text together so you can check how they work as a pair.
Adding and Managing Content Blocks
Emails are built from flexible content blocks that can be added, duplicated and rearranged.
Drag blocks to change their order, or select a block directly from the preview to open its settings.
Most block types can be used multiple times within the same email.
Deleting a block cannot be undone, so Social Sync will ask you to confirm before it is removed.
Logo Block
Use a Logo Block to add your organisation or campaign logo anywhere within the email.
By default, Social Sync pulls in your organisation logo, but you can customise the block by:
Adding a link behind the logo
Aligning it left, centre or right
Changing the logo size
Adjusting padding
Changing the block background colour
You can also add an image description to support accessibility and screen readers.
Paragraph Block
Use a Paragraph Block for your main email copy.
The editor expands as you write and includes rich-text controls for formatting content.
You can:
Change text size
Change text and background colours
Format your copy
Add Merge Fields
Insert personalised and trackable links
Adjust block padding and background colour
Merge Field links are automatically shortened and tracked by Social Sync so clicks can be attributed back to the communication.
Image Block
Use an Image Block to add visual content from your Media Library or supported stock media.
Images can also be dynamic, allowing the image shown to change based on campaign or event data.
For example, a multi-event campaign could use a different header image for each event or distance without creating separate emails.
You can configure:
Dynamic image
Link URL
Alignment
Size
Padding
Background colour
Image description for accessibility
See our Media Library guide for more information on managing images and media.
Button Block
Use a Button Block to create clear calls to action.
Buttons can link to a fixed URL or use Merge Fields to create personalised actions such as:
Log in to a fundraising page
Share a fundraiser
Claim a JustGiving or GoFundMe page
Register for an event
Complete a Custom Form
Visit a personalised campaign page
You can also use Merge Fields within the button text itself.
Button styling options include:
Alignment
Shape
Size
Border
Padding
Button colour
Text colour
Border colour
Block background colour
You can add multiple buttons throughout the email where different actions are required.
Spacer Block
Use a Spacer Block to add consistent space between sections of the email.
Choose from Small, Medium or Large spacing and set the background colour where required.
This is useful for creating breathing room between content without relying on empty paragraphs.
Divider Block
Use a Divider Block to visually separate sections of your email.
You can control:
Alignment
Width
Divider style, including solid, dotted or dashed
Weight
Padding
Divider colour
Background colour
Dividers are useful when an email contains several distinct sections or calls to action.
Socials Block
Use a Socials Block to link supporters to your organisation’s social channels and online communities.
Social profiles configured in your Account Settings are automatically available, so you do not need to add them manually to every email.
You can also add custom destinations such as a Facebook Group, Discord community or YouTube channel.
Choose from:
Icon-only, square or circle styles
Branded, light or dark icon colours
Small, medium or large icons
Left, centre or right alignment
Custom spacing between icons
Block background colour
This makes it easy to keep your standard social links consistent while still allowing campaign-specific communities where needed.
WalletPass Block
Use a WalletPass Block where eligible supporters should be able to add a Social Sync pass to their digital wallet.
The block is controlled dynamically by Social Sync and only appears when the supporter has valid WalletPass data.
If no valid pass is available, the block will not be displayed to that supporter.
The available styling options are intentionally simple and include:
Padding
Background colour
When selected by an eligible supporter, the block opens the relevant wallet pass experience.
Footer Block
Every new email includes a required Footer Block pinned to the bottom of the email.
The footer contains your organisation’s branding and essential compliance information, including the campaign unsubscribe link.
You can customise:
Footer layout
Logo
Logo URL
Logo size
Additional footer copy
Compliance text styling
Alignment
Background colour
Padding
You can also hide the logo if needed or replace it with a campaign-specific version.
The Footer Block cannot be deleted or moved from the bottom of the email.
Branding Your Email
Use the Branding tab to make high-level visual changes across the entire email rather than editing individual blocks one by one.
You can control settings such as:
Font
Background colour
Foreground colour
Link colour
Individual blocks can still override some of these settings where you need more control.
This makes it easy to create a consistent branded design while retaining flexibility for individual sections.
Previewing Your Email
The live preview updates as you build and can also be used to select individual blocks for editing.
Use it to check the overall layout, hierarchy, colours, imagery, buttons and personalisation before publishing.
You can also duplicate or delete blocks directly from the visual builder.
Sending a Test Email
When your email is ready, use the menu in the top-right corner and select Send Test.
You can enter multiple test email addresses using a comma-separated list.
Test emails are sent from a generic Social Sync email address rather than your live sending domain.
Some supporter-specific Merge Fields may appear blank in test emails because the test is not linked to a real supporter, fundraiser, registration or transaction. These fields will populate when the email is sent through a live journey where the required data exists.
Saving an Email as a Template
If you have created an email you want to reuse, open the top-right menu and select Save as Template.
This adds the design to your Email Template library so it can be used as a starting point for future journeys.
Using Email Across Your Journey
Email works alongside SMS, WhatsApp, Tasks and the wider Journey Builder functionality.
Combine Email with Triggers, Delays, Conditions, Split Tests and Quick Actions to create communications that respond to supporter behaviour while remaining consistent with your brand.
Use dynamic content, personalised links and flexible design blocks to create one email that can adapt automatically to different supporters, events and fundraising experiences.
Build rich, on-brand emails that feel personal to each supporter while still working at scale.
