Delay Nodes control when a supporter moves to the next step in a Pathway.
Use them to space out communications and actions, give supporters time to respond or behave differently, or hold everyone until a specific date and time.
You can use a Delay Node to:
Wait for a set amount of time
Wait until a specific date and time
See how many supporters are currently waiting
Inspect which supporters are being held
Adding a Delay Node
Select the point in your Pathway where you want supporters to wait and choose Delay.
You can then choose between:
Wait for â Hold each supporter for a set amount of time before continuing.
Wait until â Hold supporters until a specific date and time.
Wait For
Use Wait for when the delay should start from the moment each supporter reaches the node.
Enter a number and choose a unit of time, such as minutes, hours, days, weeks, months or years.
For example, you could wait 12 hours after registration before sending a welcome message, or wait 3 days between two stewardship touchpoints.
Because the delay starts individually for each supporter, they can move through the same Pathway at different times.
Wait Until
Use Wait until when everyone reaching the node should pause until the same date and time.
For example, supporters could enter a Pathway throughout the month but wait until 1 September at 10:00am before moving to the next step.
If the selected date and time has already passed when a supporter reaches the node, they will continue immediately.
Using Delays in Your Journeys
Delays help you control the pace and timing of the supporter experience.
For example, you can use them to space communications apart, wait before checking behaviour with a Condition, coordinate messages around a campaign or event date, or add time between automated and manual stewardship.
This helps avoid communications arriving too close together and gives supporter behaviour time to change before the journey continues.
Viewing Supporters at a Delay
The Delay Node shows how many supporters are currently waiting.
Use Inspect to view the node logs and see which supporters are being held before they move to the next step.
This can help you understand journey activity or why a particular supporter has not progressed yet.
Editing or Deleting a Delay
You can edit or delete a Delay Node when required.
Deleting a Delay Node from a live Pathway immediately releases any supporters currently waiting there to the next step.
Editing a live Delay causes Social Sync to recalculate the timing when the Pathway is republished. Supporters may move through immediately if their updated delay has already passed.
Review the next steps in the journey before making changes to a live Delay to make sure supporters will not progress earlier than intended.
