Paris Marathon – Contacting Different Supporter Segments with Pathway Builder and Rule Builder

Updated over 9 months ago

Your Paris Marathon campaign may bring in a wide mix of supporters from those who applied for a charity place, to own place runners, to active fundraisers already bringing in donations. Keeping communications relevant and timely is essential to help steward each group effectively and ensure your messages are aligned with where each individual is in their journey.

Using Pathway Builder, you can automate communications to different segments based on conditions like registration status, tags, and fundraising milestones. This guide outlines how to create simple, effective pathways tailored to each segment so you can save time and maximise your impact.

Understanding Segments

To help you navigate these pathways, here’s what we mean by key supporter types:

  • Registrant: A person who has completed their registration flow

  • Fundraiser: A registrant who has a fundraising page but has not yet received any donations

  • Active Fundraiser: A supporter who has created a fundraising page and received at least one donation

Accessing Pathway Builder

  1. Go to your Paris Marathon campaign.

  2. Click ‘New Editor’ in the top-right corner of the screen.

  3. Click ‘Pathways’ in the left-hand menu.

  4. Click ‘New Pathway’.

This will open the Pathway Builder, where you can begin setting your trigger, conditions, and automated communications.

1. Charity Place Assigned – Not Registered

Rule Builder

While Pathway Builder gives you control to segment supporters and build logic-based journeys, there are times when you simply want to send a message based on a single action. No complex conditions or branches required. That’s where Rule Builder comes in.

Contacting fundraisers when they receive their first donation

Trigger
First Donation

Action
📩 Add an email on the right-hand side of the screen.

This message will be sent automatically when a supporter receives their first donation. A perfect opportunity to thank and encourage them to keep going!

Contacting fundraisers when they reach certain fundraising milestones

Trigger
Amount Raised – set your target amount (e.g., £250, £500, £1000)

Action
📩 Add an email on the right-hand side of the screen.

This email will be sent once a fundraiser hits the selected milestone. Ideal for celebrating progress, saying thank you, or prompting the next goal.
